William E. Barnes, M.D., M.B.A., F.A.C.S. earned his medical degree in 1976 at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Maywood, IL. He completed an Internship in General Surgery at the Cook County Hospital and then completed his Residency in General Surgery at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. Dr. Barnes completed and received his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) at Murray State University in Murray, KY.

Dr. Barnes is Board Certified in General Surgery. He has completed an initial certification and three re-certifications to retain this status with the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Barnes is a member of the American College of Surgeons and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the Kentucky Medical Association (KMA), Southern Medical Association (SMA) and a member and Fellow of The Southeastern Surgical Congress. William E. Barnes, MD has completed training and certification in order to qualify and attain membership with the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

Dr. Barnes currently serves on the Trauma Advisory Committee for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, currently holds the position of Chief of Surgery and Trauma Director for Livingston Hospital and Healthcare Services, Inc. which is a Level 4 Trauma Center.

Dr. Barnes has lived in the Salem, Kentucky area since 1982 and has practiced General Surgery and General Medicine at this same location for over the last 30 years. He is performing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) surgery and has since his early medical training in 1976 at Chicago, IL. He has performed open Nissen Fundoplication procedures since his early training and started performing laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication in the early 1990’s. Now, Dr. Barnes performs Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication on selected patients over the past 5 years.
